Step 4: Develop a Communication Plan

If an emergency happens outside of normal business hours, you may need to contact staff to advise them of the situation and about any changes to work schedules or work locations.

• Keep a list of all of the telephone numbers for your employees with you and provide copies to key employees so you will be able to contact them should you need to.

• If there is a voicemail system in your workplace, designate one number as the number employees can call to receive information (i.e., whether they should be reporting to work, where they should report, when they should report etc.).
