Girl Guides - 100 Years of Being Prepared

Emergency Management Ontario (EMO) helped the Girl Guides of Canada celebrate their 100th anniversary on May 15, 2010 in Toronto, Ottawa, Sudbury and Thunder Bay.

EMO attended all four Rally Day events and coordinated numerous activities in support of the Girl Guide Emergency Preparedness (EP) badge program. The Honourable Rick Bartolucci, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services and MPP Mike Colle presented the Guides with congratulatory plaques marking their 100-year commitment to “Be Prepared.”

In 2006, EMO, the Girl Guides of Canada Ontario Council and key stakeholders partnered to develop an EP Challenge. To earn the crest, Guiders need to complete activities from each of the nine themes related to emergency preparedness.

This fall, EMO will re-launch the EP Challenge with updated activities – in both English and French.
