Welcome to Emergency Management Ontario. By entering our website you have taken the first step to better prepare yourself for an emergency or disaster.
The work of emergency management professionals is so much more than just responding to a disaster. We at Emergency Management Ontario gladly devote a great deal of time and effort to you, the citizens of Ontario, to help prevent or ease the effects of emergencies by making sure we are all better prepared.
It is our strong belief that the better prepared we are - as a family, as a community, as a province the more confident we become when responding to an actual disaster. To help you become more confident, we have developed a variety of public education materials tailored to your particular needs. Among the materials on this site are activity sheets that will help children better understand how they can help. There is an entire guide that is dedicated to the preparedness of people with disabilities and special needs. There are also checklists for homeowners and for parents.
But, EMO goes beyond simply publishing materials. We also have experts assigned to specific areas of the province who are in regular contact with municipal officials responsible for emergency management in their communities. Their focus is to get the message of prevention and preparedness out to as many Ontarians as possible. Their mission is made easier with the help of those in your community who work in emergency management on a full-time basis. They, better than anyone, know your community and its hazards.
And, as we learned early in life, practice makes perfect. We at EMO have taken that lesson very seriously. That is why you will see some of the work we do around developing emergency scenarios on this site, as well as how we practice such response scenarios with our many federal, provincial, municipal and private sector partners.
Our vision is to be leaders and partners in ensuring that all of Ontario’s diverse communities are safe and secure. As you can imagine, with a task that big we clearly cannot achieve it without your help. So we built this site with you in mind, and encourage you and your family to visit it often with your emergency management questions and needs.
